My Camping Gear

Being a camping gear geek, I have always wanted to consolidate my gear into one list such that: 1) I could assess what I should replace / buy next; 2) hopefully help newcomers in buying their own gear.

My gear are in fact quite out-dated: I bought most of them when I started heading to the Japan Northern Alps in 2017. At the time, my goal in gear selection was to enable me to head out to ~3000m mountains during spring, summer and autumn (i.e. 3-seasons), carrying as little weight as possible.

I bought my sleep system and wearables first. After a few trips in the Japan Alps for ~1 year, I purchased my camp kitchen as I was getting bored of eating cold food for 3 days in a row. My camping electronic and gadgets and miscellaneous (e.g. table, chair) came last after I have I tried out the more relaxing form of camping (i.e. glamping). Thus, my gear are not tailored for glamping: I do not have the equipment to cook a feast; I do not have much room in my tent and I do not have a tarp to shield me against the sun, but they are somewhat light, functional and get the job done in most weather conditions.

My current base weight is ~6.5 - 7.0kg with table and chair or ~4.5 - 5kg without, excluding food, water, clothes and other nice-to-have. Coupled with other items, it adds up to ~12 - 15kg depending on the food that I am cooking and the trip duration. I still find the base weight a little heavy. Looking to reduce the weight of my sleep system by 50% if possible.

I have also included my packing list such as water, plastic bags, etc. Hope that it will help in your next camping trip!
